What does it mean to thrive as a Christian? Koinonia is the Greek word that describes fellowship in the Bible and is translated, “partnership.” Koinonia is the supernatural grace that causes Christians to love one another deeply, and it is the Holy Spirit’s Koinonia, or partnership with us, that knits our hearts and binds us together. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit filled the disciples and united them to others through the speaking of tongues. The disciples drew a crowd because the people heard and understood their message and, as a result, many were saved. It is not so different for us as Christians today. Culturally, we bring various experiences, understandings, and beliefs to the table but what unites us is the Koinonia of the Holy Spirit. To thrive as Christians is to invite the Holy Spirit to regenerate our hearts through Biblical teaching, engaging in Christian fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer (Acts 2). As a result, we become the world changers that bring people to Jesus!
